I have been talking a lot lately about “Transgenerational Living”.
Recently, one of our brand new customers at Abbey Glen (building their home
now) said they want to build their home for their present lifestyle, but
also want to make sure that they are prepared to meet their needs later.
One of those changes came much sooner than expected. They instructed us to
build a “flex room” with a full bath over the garage just in case one of the
children came back to live with them for “awhile” – I call one of my
children the “revolving door child” – moves out, moves in, moves out, moves
in…you get the picture. Guess what happened shortly after they chose to add
the flex room in their new Abbey Glen home…yep; their daughter is moving
back in “for awhile”. The flex room is also great in the event you ever
need “in home care”.
They also wanted to prepare for the future and have “grab bars” installed in
the shower…later. We accommodated them by putting special blocking in the
walls so that when the time comes, it is a very easy install.
These are just two small examples of Transgenerational Design. We can help
you plan for the future with a variety of special features that are “hidden”
until you need them. When your needs change, you are prepared to make the
changes without the hassle of tearing your home apart – you are ready for
your future needs today. In case you haven’t caught this, it will be a lot
less expensive to put these features in place today than it will in the
future.

in this article to tell you all about transgenerational design. However, I

really not trying to scare you; just trying to give you a dose of reality.
